Elutriation (water) : The washing of digested sludge with either fresh water, plant effluent or other wastewater. The objective is to remove (wash out) fine particulates and/or the alkalinity in sludge. This process reduces the demand for conditioning chemicals and improves settling or filtering characteristics of the solids.
Inorganic Waste (water) : Waste material such as sand, salt, iron, calcium, and other mineral materials which are only slightly affected by the action of organisms. Inorganic wastes are chemical substances of mineral origin; whereas organic wastes are chemical substances of an animal or plant origin.
