Sludge Density Index (SDI) (water) : This calculation is used in a way similar to the Sludge Volume Index (SVI) to indicate the settleability of a sludge in a secondary clarifier or effluent. The weight in grams of one milliliter of sludge after settling for 30 minutes. SDI = 100/SVI. Also see SLUDGE VOLUME INDEX (SVI).
Contamination (water) : The introduction into water of microorganisms, chemicals, toxic substances, wastes, or wastewater in a concentration that makes the water unfit for its next intended use.
