Coliform (water) : A group of bacteria found in the intestines of warmblooded animals (including humans) and also in plants, soil, air and water. Fecal coliforms are a specific class of bacteria which only inhabit the intestines of warmblooded animals. The presence of coliform bacteria is an indication that the water is polluted and may contain pathogenic (diseasecausing) organisms.
Fungi (water) : Mushrooms, molds, mildews, rusts, and smuts that are small nonchlorophyllbearing plants lacking roots, stems and leaves. They occur in natural waters and grow best in the absence of light. Their decomposition may cause objectionable tastes and odors in water.
