Two-Stage Filters (water) : Two filters are used. Effluent from the first filter goes to the second filter, either directly or after passing through a clarifier.
In-line Filtration (water) : The addition of chemical coagulants directly to the filter inlet pipe. The chemicals are mixed by the flowing water. Flocculation and sedimentation facilities are eliminated. This pretreatment method is commonly used in pressure filter installations. Also see CONVENTIONAL FILTRATION and DIRECT FILTRATION.

Kum: Bazı kültelerin ve en çok silisli kültelerin ufalanmasından oluşan ve deniz kıyısı, çay yatağı gibi yerlerde pek bol bulunan, ufak ve sert tanecikler.Yapıda kullanılacak kum silisli olmalı,içinde toprak,kil ve örgensel maddeler bulundurmamalıdır. Harçlarda ocak veya dere kumu kullanılır.
