Subsurface Leaching System (water) : A method of treatment and disposal of septic tank effluent, sand filter effluent, or other treated wastewater. The effluent is applied to soil below the ground surface through open-jointed pipes or drains or through perforated pipes (holes in the pipes). The effluent is treated as it passes through porous soil or rock strata (layers). Newer subsurface leaching systems include chamber and gravelless systems, and also gravel trenches without pipe the full length of the trench.
Time Weighted Average (water) : The average concentration of a pollutant based on the times and levels of concentrations of the pollutant. The time weighted average is equal to the sum of the portion of each time period (as a decimal, such as 0.25 hour) multiplied by the pollutant concentration during the time period divided by the hours in the workday (usually 8 hours).
