Step-Feed Aeration (water) : Stepfeed aeration is a modification of the conventional activated sludge process. In step aeration, primary effluent enters the aeration tank at several points along the length of the tank, rather than all of the primary effluent entering at the beginning or head of the tank and flowing through the entire tank in a plug flow mode.
Flotation (water) : ΠThe stress or forces on a pipeline or manhole structure located below a water table which tend to lift or float the pipeline or manhole structure. The process of raising suspended matter to the surface of the liquid in a tank where it forms a scum layer that can be removed by skimming. The suspended matter is raised by aeration, the evolution of gas, the use of chemicals, electrolysis, heat or bacterial decomposition.
