Corrosion (water) : The gradual decomposition or destruction of a material by chemical action, often due to an electrochemical reaction. Corrosion may be caused by (1) stray current electrolysis, (2) galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metals, or (3) differentialconcentration cells. Corrosion starts at the surface of a material and moves inward.
Well Protection Area (water) : The surface and subsurface area surrounding a water well or well field, supplying a public water system, through which contaminants are reasonably likely to move toward and reach such water well or well field. Also see WELL ISOLATION ZONE.
