Surcharge (water) : Sewers are surcharged when the supply of water to be carried is greater than the capacity of the pipes to carry the flow. The surface of the wastewater in manholes rises above the top of the sewer pipe, and the sewer is under pressure or a head, rather than at atmospheric pressure.
Conductor (water) : ΠA substance, body, device or wire that readily conducts or carries electric current. A pipe which carries a liquid load from one point to another point. In a wastewater collection system, a conductor is often a large pipe with no service connections. Also called a CONDUIT, interceptor (see INTERCEPTING SEWER) or INTERCONNECTOR. 3) In plumbing, a line conducting water from the roof to the storm drain or other means of disposal. Also called a DOWNSPOUT. 4) In electricity, a substance, body, device or wire that readily conducts or carries electric current.
