Langelier Index (L.I.) (water) : An index reflecting the equilibrium pH of a water with respect to calcium and alkalinity. This index is used in stabilizing water to control both corrosion and the deposition of scale. Langelier Index = pH – pHs, where: pH = actual pH of the water, and pHs = pH at which water having the same alkalinity and calcium content is just saturated with calcium carbonate.
Sludge Digestion (water) : The process of changing organic matter in sludge into a gas or a liquid or a more stable solid form. These changes take place as microorganisms feed on sludge in anaerobic (more common) or aerobic digesters.
