Langelier Index (L.I.) (water) : An index reflecting the equilibrium pH of a water with respect to calcium and alkalinity. This index is used in stabilizing water to control both corrosion and the deposition of scale. Langelier Index = pH – pHs, where: pH = actual pH of the water, and pHs = pH at which water having the same alkalinity and calcium content is just saturated with calcium carbonate.
Sludge Gasification (water) : A process in which soluble and suspended organic matter are converted into gas by anaerobic decomposition. The resulting gas bubbles can become attached to the settled sludge and cause large clumps of sludge to rise and float on the water surface.
